This is the critique that he offered me.
Stacia,
Nice work! Loose, colorful, brave, fluid, imaginative. I don't need to say much more as the style does not require anatomical accuracy or realism. You are doing dream art or psychological art which is compelling to the viewer. I'm a painterly realist and am in a whole different mind set than you. I try to depict my subjects accurately but push color where i think it is appropriate as well as add and subtract and move things around to make a good painting. Both styles are legitimate. Good art somehow goes beyond mere paint and stirs something in our soul. As artists, we must be sensitive and honest to that fact. Dan
Thank you Dan for that. I am humbled by all the feedback I have gotten about my paintings.
This painting is an older one. It is called Heroine. It has a deep story to it. Beneath the color was a dark layer. A very dark time where I used my paintbrush and the color black to process some very significant fears and pain that I was experiencing. It was highly therapeutic. That is what I love about painting. It is therapy. I then proceeded to cover up the darkness to reveal the light and brightness that is always available . Every painting that I have done carries a piece of my soul. If it does not then it is not finished. It may take months to even a year but eventually the paintings purpose is revealed and I can feel it. That is when I sign my name and call it complete.
Today is Friday and I am so excited to spend the weekend painting. If you are not on my mailing list and would like to stay updated please go to my website https://www.staciabaker.com and sign up by leaving your email address.
