I live in Grand Junction, Colorado. I am a physician and an artist. This combination allows me to weave my love of art, beauty and healing with those who interact with me as a patient, a friend or an admirer of my art. My medium is primarily acrylic on canvas with a bit of graphite, charcoal, ink and oil pastels thrown in. Being a self taught artist I am always searching for ways to make new marks. My favorite tool is my fingers. I love to finger paint!!!
I am a Maine girl living in the high desert of Colorado! I have always had the heart of a gypsy. In both places, I have been inspired by the natural beauty which is a large part of where I find my inspiration.
In 2012, went through treatment for breast cancer. The idea of going through chemotherapy was always something that I thought I could never do. When faced with that reality, I proceeded. That process taught me the importance of my family and friends. It also taught me to stay present and quiet. It taught me to rest and it quieted my mind. It also made me realize the potential for life to be very short. Being faced with breast cancer as well as with some other profound personal challenges, I began painting. I find painting to be a meditation, a prayer and an immediate solution to calming my mind. My paintings are inspired by both the beauty and the hardships of this life.
I believe all the things that we experience, the joys and the sorrows contribute to our human experience. It is all meant to lead us to where we need to be on our journey called humanity.
I hope you enjoy what you see here and welcome comments. I love when others respond and when my paintings cause a stirring of emotion in another person. I have found that this does in fact happen. Whether it be joy, sadness or simply a recognition of something beautiful, I love that my creations can reach out and cause a feeling. I think that means they have the potential to heal. I do hope that my art can create a healing one person at a time and that our world will then become a better place. With my art I aim to add darkness to the light and lightness to the dark.
My paintings are scattered across the country in at least 15 states.
